Which lawmakers will refuse their pay during the shutdown?

Posted online
Hundreds of thousands of  federal employees won't be paid for the duration of the government shutdown, but that financial loss doesn't include members of Congress and the president.

According to a report by the Washington Post, rank-and-file lawmakers of the House and Senate earn $174,000 annually, while congressional leaders earn more. Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, makes $223,500 a year, slightly less than the $230,700 salary for Vice President Joe Biden and about half of the $400,000 salary for President Barack Obama.

As of early afternoon Wednesday, 108 lawmakers – 56 Republicans and 52 Democrats – plan to donate or refuse pay during the shutdown, including Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill, Second District Rep. Ann Wagner and Eighth District Rep. Jason Smith, the Post reports.

Sen. Roy Blunt and southwest Missouri's Seventh District Rep. Billy Long had not announced any intention to forfeit their pay as of 2 p.m. yesterday.
