Where is all the gas money going?

Plunging prices at the gas pump have kept hard-earned cash in the pockets of consumers. But will it be going right back out and into the economy, as many economists predict?
 
The amount Americans are saving could be in the hundreds of billions of dollars, according to Marketplace. That much savings could be a huge boost to a consumer-driven economy - if people actually turn around and spend it on goods and services.
 
But will we? Lower gas prices are good in the short term, economists say. But in the long run, that could negatively affect Wall Street. Which, in turn, could send retirement funds down. In a strong economy, that doesn't have an impact on folks' willingness to spend, but in a recovering economy people tend to hunker down and save, according to the report.
