‘Wheel of Fortune’ cashes in on 2016 political ads

Posted online
“Wheel of Fortune” is well on the way to reclaiming the top spot for political ad spending on television in 2016.

Through March 1, the syndicated television show netted $17.8 million in political ads and has already pulled in seven times more than it had by this time in 2012.

That year, “Wheel” topped political TV ad spending at $57 million, followed by NBC’s “Today” at $54 million and “Jeopardy!” with $50 million.

According to Bloomberg, the show’s demographics are the cause: The average “Wheel of Fortune” viewer is 50 years old and 70 percent of viewers vote. Nielsen data show weekly viewership last year averaged 29 million.
