A Springfield City Council member is asking council to reconsider the stamp of approval it gave last week to a more than $330,000 bid for the fabrication of wayfinding signs around the city.
Councilman Denny Whayne on Tuesday asked council to reconsider Resolution 9660, which passed 5-3 at the Feb. 9 council meeting.
While Whayne supports the wayfinding concept, he said he thinks council should reconsider the resolution in light of economic conditions, according to a city news release.
Planning for the wayfinding system began in 2004, and the project was included in the list of projects to be funded by the quarter-cent capital improvements tax approved by voters in 2007. The project is intended to direct visitors to the most popular destinations in the city, to increase tourism spending and ease traffic congestion.
With Councilman Whayne's reconsideration request, the bill will be posted as a possible addition to council's Feb. 23 agenda. Council will then consider a motion to reconsider the bill; if approved, the bill would be added to the agenda. At that point, council could approve the bill again, reject the bill, or table the bill and send it back to one of the council committees.[[In-content Ad]]
