About 135 lots of belongings formerly owned by the Boston underworld kingpin and his girlfriend Catherine Grieg were up for auction Saturday, part of an assets forfeiture sale following the pair’s 2011 capture in Santa Monica, Calif. His stuff brought in more than $100,000 at the auction.
The U.S. Marshals Service estimates 400-500 such sales are held annually, according to Bloomberg Business. In fiscal 2015, they generated nearly $113 million from the sale of personal property and real estate.
