What will be built at Battlefield and West Bypass?

Posted online

Site work is underway for Phase II of The Wooten Co.’s west-side storage center.

At the southwest corner of Battlefield Road and West Bypass, Kenmar Construction Inc. is on as general contractor for the nine-building, 35,540-square-foot addition to James River Self Storage. H Design LLC is the project architect for the phase adding 255 new storage units by August, said Brent Stevens, principal with H Design.

“It’s a very steep site,” he said of extensive site work at the 3048 S. Kauffman Road property. “For a storage facility, you want it to be flat.”

Wooten Co. Director Karen Cowan said James River Self Storage currently has 457 units across 57,950 square feet. Springfield building permits estimate the project cost at $1.9 million.

“The existing facility has been 100 percent full for over three years now, and we consistently put people on a wait list until units come open,” Cowan said via email.
