WGU Provides Missourians with Access to Career-Boosting Education

Posted online

WGU Missouri is a fully accredited, nonprofit, online university that has proven to be the answer for those unable to complete their degrees through traditional means. Established in 2013 as a state affiliate of Western Governors University, WGU Missouri offers more than 60 undergraduate and graduate programs in the high workforce need areas of business, IT, education and health professions, including nursing.

WGU also offers students a competency-based approach to learning, allowing them to leverage previous education, training and work experience to earn their degrees faster. Students complete their programs by studying on schedules that fit their lives, advancing as soon as they demonstrate they’ve mastered the subject matter.

The competency-based model, coupled with WGU’s flat-rate tuition of about $3,800 per six-month term, means students can complete their degrees quickly at lower cost, with the option to take as many courses as possible each term without any added fees.

While many universities have experienced a decline in enrollment since the onset of the pandemic, WGU Missouri continued to grow. With an average student age of 35, WGU currently has 3,340 enrolled students across Missouri, an increase of 2.8% over last year, and has conferred degrees to 6,011 graduates, a fifth of whom graduated in the past year. Graduates find WGU delivers a good return on investment, with students earning $21,800 more, on average, within four years of graduation.

The university provides scholarships to students, making tuition even more affordable. Since 2013, Missourians have been awarded over $3.5 million in WGU-funded scholarships. To learn more, visit Missouri.wgu.edu or call 855-948-8493.
