West Sunshine Street bridge reopens after months of work

Posted online

Five months after a key West Sunshine Street bridge closed for replacement work, the east-west arterial has reopened to traffic.

The bridge, which carries Sunshine Street over Missouri & Northern Arkansas Railroad tracks, just east of Scenic Avenue, is open as of this morning, according to a news release from the Missouri Department of Transportation.

Hartman & Co. Inc. served as general contractor for the approximately $5.9 million project. Completion of the project was delayed for about a month due to construction and weather delays, according to past Springfield Business Journal reporting.

The former bridge was built in 1963, and carried more than 26,000 vehicles a day, according to MoDOT.

Metro Eats, an 11-acre west Springfield development, which includes a food truck park, bar, event space and a food hall, is among businesses previously identified as facing disruptions due to the bridge work, according to past reporting.
