The Springfield-based company, owned by Wendy’s franchisees Sam and June Hamra, purchased the building from Bill Beall Co., which bought the property from Nutty Munkey.
The custard shop closed last fall after its owners couldn’t find a buyer for the business, according to Wilhoit Properties agent Teresa Schwab, who brokered the deal. Representatives from Nutty Munkey could not be reached. Its owners – a group of nine investors – initially listed the building for sale for $250,000.
Wendy’s demolished the building several weeks ago, according to Marketing Manager Alex Rozier, and concrete is being laid for the new restaurant that will be located in the Kickapoo Corners Shopping Center. Rozier said officials expect to open in late summer.
The restaurant will employ about 35 and will feature Wendy’s new dining room design, which has a “warmer feel” in its earth tones and café style, Rozier said.
The franchise had been searching for a South Campbell spot and was attracted to the shopping center’s heavy traffic brought by nearby Campbell 16 Ciné and commuters coming into Springfield from Nixa, Rozier said.[[In-content Ad]]
