Wells Fargo's net income rises 4.5%

Wells Fargo & Co. posted a 4.5 percent gain in second-quarter profits.

Net income applicable to common shareholders rose to $5.4 billion from $5.17 billion a year earlier.

That came to $1.07 per share, above expectations of $1.01 per share.
