Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster last week secured restitution from the owner of Branson timeshares for misleading customers.
San Diego, Calif.-based Welk Resort Sales Inc. agreed to pay $18,000 to 15 Missourians, according to a news release.
After receiving consumer complaints, Koster’s investigation found Welk had misled timeshare buyers about the benefits of ownership and how they could use, cancel or sell their timeshares.
Under the terms of the agreement, Welk employees are required to comply with Missouri laws, including confirming customers are getting everything they paid for and no other material misrepresentations have been made.
“Timeshare purchases are a big investment on the part of consumers, who trust that they are being treated fairly by the sellers,” Koster said in the release. “I am pleased that we were able to obtain restitution for consumers and release them from unwanted contracts.”
Welk opened its Branson resort in 1994. It has over 150 guest rooms, according to
