World War II Veteran Bruce Heilman on May 2 visits the Missouri Vietnam Veterans Memorial at College of the Ozarks on a 6,000-mile trip across the United States. A 16-year president and 30-year chancellor of the University of Richmond in Virginia, Heilman’s stop at the Point Lookout campus was part of a special ceremony honoring veterans.
Members of the Nixa High School Future Business Leaders of America Chapter attend the April 24-26 Missouri FBLA Leadership Conference in Springfield. With 4,500 members and 400 chapters throughout the state, the annual meeting included officer elections, career workshops and competitive events. Thirteen delegates from Nixa’s chapter, above, qualified to compete at the national summer conference in Atlanta.
Mercy Springfield Communities President Dr. Alan Scarrow, far left, leads a May 2 groundbreaking ceremony for the health system’s planned $19 million clinic in Branson. Construction is slated to begin in late summer and finish in 18 months for the 32,000-square-foot multispecialty clinic at State Highway 248 and U.S. Highway 65. The Branson Inn was demolished in summer 2013 in preparation, and Mercy also plans to tear down the former Oak Ridge Boys Theatre to make way for the clinic.
