Southwest Baptist University students Justin Stout, Bobby Sterling, Jarrett Munton and Steven Harris, left to right, competed in the 2014 Phi Beta Lambda National Collegiate Conference in Nashville, Tenn. Stout, a senior computer science and mathematics major, was named the 2014 national champion in cyber security. Four of SBU’s five competitors placed in the top 10 in their respective categories, and Stout is SBU’s fifth PBL national champion since 2005.

Strafford-based trucking company Transland Inc. donated $10,000 to the American Cancer Society in mid-July from funds raised by the company’s pink truck. The company donates 5 cents for every mile the truck travels to select cancer organizations each year. Transland raises awareness of the pink truck by participating in such events as Making Strides, Pink at the Park and Relay for Life.
The first southwest Missouri location of EarthWise Pet, a national chain of pet supply stores, opened; Grey Oak Investments LLC relocated; and Hot Bowl by Everyday Thai LLC got its start.
