Former Evangel University President Robert Spence, right, receives the ceremonial key to the city from Springfield Mayor Ken McClure. A special ceremony was held Feb. 10 in city offices. Spence is the first to receive an official city key since former Councilman Ralph Manley more than 10 years ago. Officials pointed to Spence’s roughly 40 years leading Evangel before his 2014 retirement, as well as board leadership for the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, City Utilities, Springfield-Branson National Airport and other organizations, and numerous awards.

HISTORIC HAIRCUT
Diehard Kansas City Chiefs fan Loy Baker gets his head shaved days after the team’s Super Bowl victory. Baker hadn’t cut his hair in 25 years, keeping a vow he made after the Chiefs lost in the 1995 playoffs; the team had to win the title before he’d trim his locks – now a 32-inch ponytail. The crew from Sport Clips met Baker at the Rally Sports store to perform the historic cut.

SHARE THE BEAR
Representatives from Old Missouri Bank, along with Missouri State University basketball players and coach Dana Ford, far left, distribute hundreds of new teddy bears to the Springfield Police Department on Jan. 31. Through the bank’s Share the Bear campaign, law enforcement will gift the bears to local children during crisis situations. The stuffed animals were tossed on the court at halftime of this year’s Share the Bear game on Jan. 11 and collected by OMB officials.
