College of the Ozarks assistant education professor Kerry Moore teaches in a school in San Antonio, Belize, during Thanksgiving break. Moore worked with two elementary education majors, while psychology professor Sheryl Haile held a behavioral health workers conference to assist caseworkers with the help of three psychology majors. Dean of the College Eric Bolger and Director of Christian Formation Jennifer Freeman hosted a parallel conference for 20-30 pastors and church workers. Customers seeking free chicken camped out as early as 24 hours ahead of time for the Dec. 3 opening of Springfield’s second stand-alone Chick-fil-A restaurant. The first 100 who entered the 425 W. Sunshine St. restaurant when it opened at 6:30 a.m. received one free meal a week for a year. The meal vouchers equate to roughly $32,000. Retired U.S. Air Force officer Brian Heberlie bought the franchise rights on the $478,000 project.

Women in Need of the Ozarks raised $10,700 through its Wild Turkey Wednesday bake sale, $2,700 over last year’s sum. Held at Uncle Bentley’s the day before Thanksgiving, WIN co-founder Carrie Quesenberry said members, friends and family baked cakes, pies, dinner rolls and other sweets for the 13th annual event. The nonprofit seeks to provide resources necessary to enable women in need to become women of strength.
