Mary Lilly Smith, director of planning and development for the city of Springfield, on April 19 is given the key to the city by Mayor Ken McClure to recognize her four decades of employment with the municipality. Smith is slated to retire April 30. City officials credit Smith with having a hand in around 100 key economic development projects and business attraction, retention and expansion initiatives, as well as two long-range city planning efforts in Vision 2020 and the current Forward SGF.

OUTDOOR GIVING
Bass Pro Shops on April 15 presents a ceremonial $27,680 check to the Springfield-Greene County Park Board. The donation amount represents the cost of 40 new kayaks, paddles and life jackets given to the Park Board for use at Lake Springfield Park. The gear also will be used by the Park Board’s Outdoor Initiatives program for guiding paddling programs at area rivers and streams.
