Webster University has recently been selected by Wal-Mart Inc. as a preferred online educational provider, according to a Jan. 7 news release.
The My Education Connection program is part of a new benefits Web site for Wal-Mart associates. My Education Connection will allow associates the opportunity to pursue associate, baccalaureate and graduate degrees, as well as professional development and certificate programs, at a discount. Webster's online program offerings will include the MBA, masters of arts in security and organizational management, the master of arts in media communications, and the online certificate in decision support and Web design. Classes will begin in January and will be capped per Webster policy at no more than 15 students per class.
Webster University President Richard S. Meyers, said the global expansion goals of both the university and Wal-Mart make the partnership a uniquely wonderful fit. Webster University has more than 100 campuses in eight countries and 18 states.
"Webster's pioneering global outreach in the development of campuses and programs has been of distinct value to corporations seeking expanded global markets," said Meyers. "The global entrepreneurship of Wal-Mart is admirable and well-suited to the advanced business programs the University provides. Webster University looks forward to a long, mutually beneficial partnership and considers this program a model in the business community."
According to Victoria Spradlin, director of the My Education Connection program, Webster University was selected because Wal-Mart believes Webster is "capable of delivering the highest level of support in the most cost-effective and efficient manner possible."
Benjamin Ola. Akande, dean of the Webster University School of Business & Technology, was instrumental in establishing the expanded online partnership. "This is a relationship that makes sense," said Akande. "It brings together two organizations that are forward-thinking, efficient, pioneers with a long history of commitment to empowering people. The 1.4 million Wal-Mart associates who will benefit from this partnership are the real winners."
Founded as a small liberal arts college in 1915, Webster University now serves 20,000 students worldwide from its headquarters campus in St. Louis. Webster has its Springfield campus at 312 W. Battlefield, Ste. 200.
