Weather pushes propane prices higher

Propane prices are 17 cents higher than last year's levels, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, and industry representatives say weather is a primary factor.

In the fall, farmers in the Midwest used more propane than normal to dry their crops after a particularly wet harvest, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The recent cold snap also has taxed propane distributors and with the shortage some Missouri drivers are traveling to Hattiesburg, Miss., to pick up propane, according to the Missouri Propane Gas Association.
