The inaugural state event will take place at 10 a.m. March 11 at the Jefferson City mansion. About 800 people are expected to attend, according to a news release from Gov. Matt Blunt’s office.
One of the five women being honored is Cynthia Teas, co-founder of Camp Barnabas in Purdy. She and husband Paul own the nonprofit Christian summer camp for children with disabilities. Teas, who is receiving the award in the culture and humanities category, was a Springfield Business Journal 2007 Most Influential Women honoree.
The other First Lady Awards honorees are: Judy Burns, of St. Charles, for Business and Innovation; Jahnae Barnett, of Fulton, for Education; Naoma Powell, of Columbia, for Health and Wellness; and Rosemary Wick, of Clayton, for Volunteerism.
