At the 2006 International Horizon Interactive Awards, the kiosk received a silver medal in education/training and a bronze medal in public service.
According to a news release, the Horizon Interactive Awards receives hundreds of entries from all over the world, and those entries are judged by a panel of industry professionals.
The kiosk’s interactive cartoon program, housed in a gigantic 7-foot water drop, teaches children what they can do to protect water quality in a karst environment. The kiosk base represents karst landforms with caves, sinkholes, a septic tank and a losing stream.
The kiosk, written and produced by Margaret Castrey & Associates, features computer programming by Brad Hedrick, artwork by Jeff Williams and a custom enclosure by Garage Graphics.
Earlier this year, the Springfield Advertising Association awarded the kiosk a Gold Addy in the electronic public service category.
