An alumnus and emeritus trustee of Washington University in St. Louis pledged $8 million to the school.
The donor, John Dains, is donating the funds to provide financial assistance to undergraduates.
Dains is the former CEO of San Francisco-based railcar leasing business Helm Financial Corp., which was purchased in 2014 by Wells Fargo.
