Wash U, adjunct professors reach tentative labor deal

Washington University and adjunct professors have reached a preliminary agreement to give part-time instructors higher pay and increased job security.

The four-year agreement announced yesterday - which still must be ratified over the next few weeks - avoids a planned walk-out today by over 500 adjunct professors, students and community members. A victory rally will be held instead.

Service Employees International Union Local 1 was in deep negotiations this week with the St. Louis university.
