Walmart is reversing course and closing its stores on Thanksgiving after years of keeping them open on the holiday to kick off Black Friday sales early.
John Furner, Walmart's U.S. president and CEO, said employees have "stepped up" amid the coronavirus pandemic and deserve a "special Thanksgiving Day at home with their loved ones."
Walmart additionally announced it would invest $428 million in cash bonuses for hourly employees.
