Walgreens reports surprise sales drop

The largest U.S. drugstore chain posted a surprise drop in quarterly sales, damaged by a weak euro and pound and lower reimbursements for generic drugs.

Walgreens Boots Alliance reported sales of $28.5 billion, which is down from $29 billion a year earlier.

Net income attributable to Walgreens dropped to $1.05 billion, or 97 cents per share, from $1.11 billion, or $1.01 per share, at the same time last year.
