Wal-Mart's same-store sales beat estimates

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. today reported its same-store sales beat analysts' expectations.

Sales at U.S. stores open at least a year rose 1.4 percent, above projections of 1.3 percent.

Consolidated net income was down to $3.04 billion from $3.08 billion a year earlier, largely due to an increase in the tax rate.
