Wal-Mart tops Q2 sales expectations

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. reported better-than-expected second-quarter comparable store sales.

Same-store sales at the retailer's U.S. stores rose 1.6 percent, above its guidance of 1 percent. Foot traffic also rose 1.2 percent.

Net income was $3.77 billion, or $1.21 a share, compared with a year-earlier profit of $3.48 billion, or $1.08 a share.
