Wal-Mart to increase holiday hiring by 10%

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas – at least in the Wal-Mart Stores Inc. human resources department.

The world's largest retailer announced it plans to hire 60,000 temporary holiday workers this year, up 10 percent over 2013.

The Associated Press reports Wal-Mart (NYSE: WMT) also emphasized current workers who want more hours during the holidays will get priority.

The Bentonville, Ark., retailer said the move stems from the chain's increased footprint this year, to about 4,300 stores, up about 200.  

According to AP, about 25 percent of the seasonal workers will stay on in permanent roles.
