Wal-Mart preparing to cut hundreds from HQ

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is preparing a round of layoffs as early as today that would affect hundreds of employees at its headquarters in Bentonville, Ark., according to people familiar with the situation.

Fewer than 500 are expected to be laid off.

Wal-Mart, which employs some 18,600 people in the Bentonville region, had no immediate comment.
