Wal-Mart plans new east Springfield Neighborhood Market

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is developing in east Springfield on property the Bentonville, Ark., company has owned for two decades, the Springfield News-Leader reports.

Officials with the city and the megaretailer confirmed to the News-Leader plans were moving forward to build a 42,000-square-foot Neighborhood Market at 3720 E. Sunshine St., adjacent to Sam’s Club. For years, nearby neighbors have fought the idea of a Supercenter on the 14-acre property.

A Wal-Mart spokesperson said the store could open early next year.
