Wal-Mart fired 2,200 to fix the plumbing

Posted online
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. reportedly surprised 2,200 workers by putting them out of work Monday as it temporarily closed five stores.

The reason for the shut down: plumbing problems, according to the retailer.

CNNMoney reports two of the stores are in Texas, with the others in California, Florida and Oklahoma. They're expected to be closed for repairs for six months.

According to the report, workers were notified just hours before the stores closed.

"We understand this decision has been difficult on our associates and our customers and we aim to reopen these stores as soon as these issues are resolved," a Wal-Mart spokesman told CNNMoney.
