Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has teamed up with Fort Lee, N.J.-based AutoInsurance.com to allow shoppers to buy insurance policies online, according to the Associated Press.
The service is currently available in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri and Oklahoma, and there are plans to expand nationwide in the next few months.
Wal-Mart says car insurance is among the biggest monthly expenses for their customers and, for some, can outpace health care costs.
“Our customers too often have to settle for auto insurance policies that aren’t the best fit and cost more than they want to spend,” Daniel Eckert, senior vice president of services for Wal-Mart U.S., told AP.
AutoInsurance.com will earn a commission every time a policy is sold, and Wal-Mart will receive promotion payments as marketer of the policies.
