Voters decide on five ballot issues Tuesday

Posted online
Tuesday’s election will ask voters to decide on a number of Greene County issues and candidates vying for local, state and national offices.

Ballot issues will include:

• The continuation of a 1/10-percent state sales tax until 2016 to generate about $82 million for soil and water conservation efforts and the operation of the state’s park system;

• A shared ¼-percent sales tax countywide that would fund parks acquisition and development and, after five years, would be reduced to 1/8-percent for ongoing operations and maintenance;

• A $5.25 million bond issue for Rogersville to acquire, construct, extend and improve the city’s water works and sewerage system;

• Authorization for the Logan-Rogersville Fire Protection District Board of Directors to levy a tax of up to 12 cents on every $100 of assessed property valuation to fund additional fire personnel; and

• A $2.4 million bond issue for the Marion C. Early R-V School District in Polk County to build a classroom addition and cafeteria to the school.

Candidates will be on the ballot for the following local offices: associate circuit judge for Div. 21, presiding commissioner, recorder of deeds, county clerk, circuit clerk, prosecuting attorney, collector of revenue, county auditor and various county committees. Candidates for state auditor, along with seats in the state and federal legislatures, are also on the ballot in primary challenges.

Polls open at 6 a.m. tomorrow and close at 7 p.m.[[In-content Ad]]
