Attorneys who volunteer their time in the community don't necessarily just provide legal services.|ret||ret||tab|
Ozarks Literacy Council heavily relies on volunteers to train new tutors and act as tutors for their one-on-one programs. Most clients, called "learners," are adults who can't read well enough to get by in today's work force or life in general. Others are working toward earning their high school equivalency and need specialized tutoring.|ret||ret||tab|
"We couldn't do this without volunteers," said Ann Dare, interim program director.|ret||ret||tab|
Among those volunteers is Fred Hall, an attorney with Hall Ansley Rodgers & Condry PC. Hall is working with his third learner since becoming an OLC volunteer about a year ago. He said that he helps learners take the first steps down the road to become self-supporting. |ret||ret||tab|
"It's just the satisfaction of doing that," he said. "To see someone grow in knowledge and their own strength."|ret||ret||tab|
Dare said OLC tutors must attend 10 hours of training before becoming certified, and the organization asks tutors to commit to a year with the learner. Hall said he meets with his current learner about one hour each week to study mathematics.|ret||ret||tab|
