Volkswagen plans 30,000 job cuts worldwide

Volkswagen announced plans to cut 30,000 jobs worldwide, with about 23,000 of those losses in Germany.

The cuts are expected to result in annual savings of $3.9 billion by 2020.

The layoffs represent a fifth of VW's 120,000 German workers.

Still dealing with the aftermath of its emissions-cheating scandal, VW cited a need to rejuvenate its core brand and develop new electric and self-driving cars.
