Volkswagen passes Toyota as world's largest automaker

Volkswagen has taken the top spot as the world’s largest automaker.

In 2016, the company sold 10.31 million vehicles worldwide to surpass Toyota, which sold 10.18 million vehicles.

GM, which held the top spot for decades, lost the No. 1 rank in 2008 to Toyota.
