Volkswagen CEO resigns amid emissions scandal

Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn resigned yesterday, taking responsibility for an emissions cheating scandal that has gravely damaged the carmaker’s reputation.

The 68-year-old maintained he personally did nothing wrong.

“As CEO, I accept responsibility for the irregularities that have been found in diesel engines," he said in a statement. “I am not aware of any wrongdoing on my part."

On Tuesday, the company announced some 11 million cars worldwide had software equipped to fool emissions tests.
