Virgin Australia entered voluntary administration amid the coronavirus pandemic's impact on the travel industry.
The airline, which also has a substantial debt load, appointed Deloitte as administrator after it was unable to secure an $887.6 million loan from the Australian government.
Administration is Australia's closest equivalent to Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings used in the United States.
