Vinyl records outsell CDs for first time since 1980s

Vinyl records outsold CDs in the United States for the first time in three decades.

Vinyl made up $232 million, or 62%, of total physical revenue during the first half of 2020, according to the Recording Industry Association of America. That compares with $129.9 million spent on CDs.

Still, vinyl records tallied only 4% of total recorded music revenue. Streaming accounted for 85% of revenue, equating to $4.8 billion.
