A Vietnamese former banker and his business associate have been sentenced to death for their part in the embezzlement of $25 million, state media has reported.
Vu Quoc Hao, 58, the one-time chief of a finance subsidiary of the state-owned Vietnam Agribank, and building firm boss Dang Van Hai, 56, received their sentences Friday, according to Al Jazeera.
The nine other defendants in the case were jailed up to 14 years, according to reports.
Vietnam resumed executions by lethal injection earlier this year, drawing criticism from the UN's human rights office.
