Vietnam Wall replica stops in Missouri

Posted online
The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Moving Wall, a half-sized replica of the wall in Washington, D.C., is making a tour stop in Missouri next week.

The wall will be on display on the south lawn of the Missouri State Capitol Nov. 22–27.

An opening ceremony is scheduled for noon Nov. 22 and includes a Huey Helicopter flyover and music by the Fort Leonard Wood 399th Army Band. Scheduled speakers are ex-Vietnam prisoner of war Col. John Clark, State Representative Col. Jack Jackson and Vietnam fighter pilot Lt. Col. Lin Appling. Volunteers then will read the names of all 58,249 people who died in the war.

The wall is available for viewing 24 hours a day but will be fully staffed by volunteers 8 a.m.–10 p.m. daily. An information tent will be on site to help guests find specific names on the wall, and a display area will feature Vietnam-era vehicles, equipment and other exhibits.

The wall’s closing ceremony is 3 p.m. Nov. 27.

The memorial is a joint project by the Jefferson City Veterans Council and the Missouri Veterans Commission.
