U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt, R-Missouri, voiced his opposition to President Barack Obama’s proposal for military intervention in Syria on Sunday’s airing of NBC’s “Meet the Press.” Blunt joined Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, and Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Sen. Robert Menendez, D-N.J., to address the plan agreed to by the United States and Russia to secure Syria's chemical weapons. The guests described the situation as being filled with opportunity and fraught with danger, according to an International Business Times article.
Blunt, a member of the Armed Services Committee, told show host David Gregory the type of military presence must be strategically calculated.
“I think it would have been a mistake for us to have a small attack and have Assad say, “The Americans took their best shot at me … and I’m still here,” Blunt said of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. “I think Assad is a lot stronger today than he was two weeks ago.”
