After breaking ground on its new multimillion-dollar men's shelter this summer, Victory Mission and Ministry has secured a naming-level donation from local McDonald's franchisees.
Chip and Teresa McGeehan, who own and operate 17 McDonald’s restaurants in southwest Missouri, have issued a donation in an undisclosed amount for the Victory Mission project that's under construction at 1610 N. Broadway Ave. The facility will be named after the McGeehans to honor their donation, according to a news release.
"Our hope has always been simple, to give a little more for those who have a little less. Every act of kindness, every shared effort, builds a stronger, more compassionate community," the McGeehans said in a joint statement provided in the release. "If this space inspires others to be better, if it helps someone to reach out and lift another person up, then we’ve accomplished what matters most, and that is leaving an imprint of goodness that lasts far beyond ourselves."
Victory Mission broke ground in July on the $22 million project that would expand shelter capacity by 30% and create a new facility with a 50-bed emergency shelter, 75-bed transitional shelter, long-term recovery program housing with 35 beds, a dining hall, training center and administrative offices, according to past reporting.
DeWitt & Associates Inc. is serving as general contractor for the project designed by Dake Wells Architecture Inc. Officials have said the project will take about 20 months to complete.
