Vanity closing Battlefield Mall store

Posted online
A longtime tenant of Battlefield Mall is closing up shop.

Fargo, North Dakota-based Vanity Shop of Grand Forks Inc. is closing all 137 of its women’s and juniors' apparel and accessories stores that do business as Vanity. The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last week, according to a news release.

The company’s March 1 bankruptcy filing lists estimated assets of $50,001 to $100,000 against estimated liabilities of $10 million to $50 million.

Some 1,200 to 1,400 employees will lose their jobs through the process.

New York-based investment firm Tiger Capital Group is conducting a liquidation sale at all of the stores. In a release announcing the bankruptcy, Vanity officials said the close-out sales would be held during March and possibly part of April.

Vanity has operated at Battlefield Mall since at least 2000, when it relocated within the retail center, according to Springfield Business Journal archives. It currently operates near Old Navy. A Battlefield Mall spokeswoman could not be reached for comment by deadline.

Vanity operates six other stores in Missouri: one each in Joplin, Columbia, Independence, Mehlville, St. Joseph and St. Peters.
