Making beautiful, heart-shaped iced cookies for Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be hard. Let us show you
Using a prepared cookie dough sheet skips a lot of steps and saves a lot of time.
Remove the dough from the package and place on cutting board or other flat surface.
Cut out the cookies with a heart-shaped cookie cutter.
Don’t go breakin’ your heart. Be gentle as you remove the heart-shaped dough.
Place dough hearts on the cookie sheet at least an inch apart and bake according to directions.
To make the icing: Combine 1 cup sifted powdered sugar, 1 egg white, and 1 teaspoon corn syrup in bowl and whisk to blend. Adjust powdered sugar amount to achieve a spreadable but opaque icing. Color with a gel or water-based food coloring to desired hue and spread icing over cookies.
Let dry and finish with more icing of a different color (we made pink “dots” to go on the white icing). To create your desired design use a pastry bag fitted with a small round tip. These tools can be found at most hobby stores or a baking store where they can be purchased by the piece or as a decorating set. If you are looking for a simple alternative to the professional tools, a small plastic bag can be filled with the icing to pipe a design on the cookies – just fill, close, and snip off the corner to start decorating.[[In-content Ad]]
