The U.S. Department of Agriculture has lowered the threshold for schools nationwide to qualify for free meals.
The qualification threshold changed to 25% of students who are participating in needs-based federal programs. It previously was 40%.
USDA officials say the change will give 3,000 more school districts the opportunity to provide free meals to all students.
