U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said Monday the Obama administration is willing to talk with Iran over deteriorating security conditions. Kerry, who spoke from the State Department in Washington, D.C., also would not rule out cooperating with Iran as the U.S. manages threats to the civilians and the Iraqi government.
The Pentagon, however, flatly ruled out the idea of joint military operations with Iran, and it diffused speculation the U.S. would coordinate or consult with Iran on military intervention at all, according to the Associated Press.
In an interview with Yahoo News, Kerry said talks with Iran would need to be constructive, if they are even possible. He also said U.S. air strikes, including from unmanned drones, may well be an option.
