U.S. wages, spending see modest growth in August

On Friday, the Commerce Department reported consumers’ spending on goods and services rose 0.3 percent in August from July, according to a report in the Washington Post.
 
Income was also up in August by 0.4 percent. The August number reflects the largest gain in wages since February.
 
Despite consumer spending increasing in August, economists say the gains are still too low to speed up the economic recovery in the third quarter.
