US unveils security plan to avoid laptop ban

In an effort to avoid an outright ban on laptops, the United States yesterday unveiled enhanced security measures for flights to the country.

The measures would require additional time to be taken when screening passengers and personal electronic devices for possible explosives.

The rules are expected to take effect within three weeks.
