The U.S. government agreed to pay $1.2 billion to AstraZeneca PLC to secure its supply of a potential COVID-19 vaccine.
The deal calls for the government to fund a 30,000-person vaccine trial starting this summer. The investment also would support the ramp-up of manufacturing capacity to make at least 300 million doses.
The vaccine was developed by the University of Oxford’s Jenner Institute.
