U.S. Supreme Court backs pregnant workers in UPS case

The U.S. Supreme Court didn't get it, either.
 
Why could UPS assign workers injured on the job with lighter duties but refuse to extend pregnant workers the same consideration? That's the question posed by Justice Stephen Breyer, writing for the majority, according to Bloomberg Businessweek.
 
The justices voted 6-3 to send the case back for a trial. UPS contends it abided by both the Pregnancy Discrimination Act, which grants companies leeway on how it treats injured workers, and its union contract, which has no provisions for pregnant workers.
 
Since the suit was filed by plaintiff Peggy Young, UPS has amended its policies to offer both injured and pregnant workers the same accommodations, according to the report.
